Bankruptcy in Las Vegas

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

My brother works as a Navada bankruptcy attorney and he is finding that his workload has been increasing rapidly. It seems like he is one of the only people that is benefiting from this recession at the moment. He finds it hard when he benefits form others peoples misfortunes but he knows that he works hard to help them out of trouble and get them started on a route to improve their financial problems. He finds it hard when doing his job, seeing people who have worked hard all of their life having to declare bankruptcy because the economic situation has caused them such problems.

Other people who thought they had planned well financially but were taken by surprise by the recession are innocent victims that he also feels very sorry for. He says that he has seen a few nasty cases of Las Vegas bankruptcy where people have gambled their last few possession just hoping for a bit of luck which has not come their way. He finds that sort of case very hard to understand as he is certainly not the gambling type, especially when he sees so many people struggling all of the time. It is lucky that he is understanding and not judgemental really.

How good is ammonia refrigeration system

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Industrial refrigeration systems work by compressing, condensing, evaporating refrigerants like ammonia and Freon. They are found in chemical plants, food industry, and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants. Industrial refrigeration systems are also responsible for air conditioning of malls, airports, large commercial buildings. With increasing regulations on chlorofluorocarbons and hydro chlorofluorocarbons, alternate refrigerants are being though about which are similar to halocarbons but not hazardous as them. Ammonia is one such refrigerant which has thermodynamic characteristics very similar to that of halocarbons but it doesn’t contribute to ozone depletion and global warming.

Ammonia refrigeration systems are frequently used in industrial refrigeration. Soft drinks, juices, fish, poultry items, ice creams and many other regular items that we consume, use ammonia refrigeration. However, it is seen that ammonia as a refrigerant is not very safe. Handling of ammonia requires a lot of care as it can cause many problems. Workers working in the plants face the risk of being open to ammonia hazards like explosion and fire. Ammonia refrigeration systems have claimed many lives of workers in the past due to inhalation and skin contact. Protective clothing and equipment to deal with ammonia spills, and fire safety precautions should be in place at industrial refrigeration systems which use ammonia as a refrigerant.

Bank customers always had problems of withdrawing money for their bank account. There had to walk long distances, take their bank passport to bank and then withdraw money only after verification. Online personal banking process allows people to access their bank account, check their balance and transfer money online to their friends. Process of sending money online is called as EFT payment. EFT stands for electronic funds transfer.

For providing extra benefits to customers banks are using online fund transfers along with echecks. Trend of e-checks recently came into existence. These checks allow customers to receive check information online. These checks are advantageous for employees. With help of these checks employees can take their salary.

American processing organization ACH has ability to send echecks to customers. ACH processing is entirely different from credit card processing. It does not provide any real time authorization of transactions. It only allows people to debit or credit electronic funds to some other particular account temporarily. Best point about ACH is it will allow you to save bulk money. ACH does not charge any fee for transactions. Americans treat ACH as future technology because it’s highly secure and safe.

Drunk driving is very prevalent in Massachusetts and it accounts for about 41% of the people killed in road accidents per year.

An ignition interlock is a device that is similar to a breath analyzer. It requires the driver to breathe into the device and provide a breath sample. If the alcohol content exceeds the programmed limit of the device the ignition automatically shuts down. At random times even after the ignition has been started the ignition interlock device (IID) will require another breath sample; this is to prevent a friend from breathing onto the device thus allowing the intoxicated person to drive away.

Ford may need to access govt aid in late ‘09: Barclays

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Ford Motor Co may need to access U.S. government aid in late 2009, an analyst at Barclays Capital said on Monday, just days after the automaker said it would have the cash to survive the worst downturn in auto sales in a decade without a state bailout.

Analyst Brian Johnson downgraded the U.S. automaker’s stock to “underweight” from “equal-weight” and cut his price target on the stock to $1 from $4, citing cash concerns and an increase in the company’s net debt.

The analyst also forecast a fourth-quarter loss for Ford’s rival General Motors Corp and cut his price target on the stock to 50 cents from $1. Johnson has an “underweight” rating on GM shares.

The analyst expects GM’s fourth-quarter results to reflect continued headwinds from weak demand in North America, but said he was more concerned about the quick deterioration in international markets.

Ford’s results last week were a reflection of just how quickly non-U.S. markets have deteriorated, Johnson said. He noted that the company had reported an international automotive operating loss of $1.1 billion compared with his estimate of a $0.3 billion profit.

The analyst estimates GM’s automotive loss to total $4.3 billion and expects the struggling automaker to burn through $3.1 billion as production was down significantly across all regions in the fourth quarter.

He expects GM to post a loss of $6.18 a share in the quarter, while according to Reuters Estimates, analysts on average are expecting a loss of $7.18 a share.

“With international segments no longer offsetting North America losses, we expect investor focus to remain on GM’s cash levels and how the company expects to minimize future cash burn,” Johnson said.

Last week, Ford reported a record $14.6 billion full-year lossand burned through $21 billion for the year, but said it would be able to better conserve cash in 2009 if U.S. sales stabilize in the second half as it expects.

Analyst Johnson said Ford could also relieve some of the stress on its cash balance by renegotiating its United Auto Workers (UAW) wage/benefits and Voluntary Employees Beneficiary Association (VEBA) contributions along the lines of GM’s plan, even without obtaining government loans.

“While this would benefit Ford as an enterprise, in terms of equity holders, providing stock in lieu of cash or debt to the VEBA trust would create significant dilution with about half of Ford’s equity being ceded to the VEBA trust,” he wrote in a note to clients.

Some of the conditions imposed by the U.S. government for its $17.4 billion bailout of Ford’s rivals GM and Chrysler were the reduction of debt by two-thirds via a debt-for-equity exchange, making half of VEBA health-care trust payments in the form of stock and eliminating UAW jobs bank, which pays laid-off workers, sometimes for years. Ford shares, which have fallen 18 percent since the start of the year, closed at $1.87 Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.

GM shares, which closed at $3.01 Friday, have plunged 33 percent since Dec. 19, when the U.S. government announced it was extending a $17.4 billion lifeline for GM and Chrysler.

Demand for new software to stagnate: Wipro

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

India’s No. 3 software services exporter, Wipro Ltd, expects demand for new software and systems to stagnate for up to two years as a result of the global economic slowdown, a top executive said on Saturday.

In response, Wipro plans to focus on providing operations services and helping clients cut costs, Wipro joint Chief Executive Girish Paranjpe said in an interview.

He sees a return to growth in the new software and systems segment ‘18 to 24 months from now’ when clients could look to launch new products or streamline internal systems which have come about through mergers and acquisitions.

“We are really using this next 12 to 18 months to invest in that capability, so that when growth returns and clients look at their own internal systems more rationally, we are there and well positioned to help them actually to execute on that.”

Paranjpe, speaking on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, declined to give a projection for revenue growth in the 2009/10 fiscal year, but said he thought Wipro could attain its target of 18 per cent revenue growth for the full 2008/09 year to March.

Wipro’s profits rose 8.7 per cent in the October to December period, but it said last week that it anticipated a quarter-on-quarter decline in revenue for the January-to-March quarter.

Wipro, which counts Citigroup, Credit Suisse and Cisco among its clients, had so far not seen any impact on its business from the recent revelations of overstated profits and fictitious assets at rival Satyam Computer Services, Paranjpe said.

“So far we have not seen any fallout in terms of cancelled orders or withdrawn inquiries or anything of that sort, maybe just a higher degree of due diligence from new prospects before they close the deal,” he said.

Wipro had not proactively approached any of Satyam’s clients, he added.

“But some of the clients have tried to make contingency plans, saying that if they wanted to continue their business operations without Satyam being in the fray, how could we help,” he said.

“We don’t want the reputation of the industry to go down, so as long as clients’ business operations don’t suffer, broadly they will be alright.”

NGO takes Delhi Metro to court over passenger facilities

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

An NGO has taken the Delhi Metro to court alleging it had failed to provide drinking water and toilet facilities for commuters.

A petition before the Delhi High Court, filed by Voice of India, has said that it had last year sent a representation to the Delhi government and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) seeking basic facilities in the Metro trains but got no satisfactory reply from them.

The NGO wants the DMRC to provide these facilities within two months.

It has also alleged that the corporation had failed to provide special sitting arrangements for senior citizens.

The petitioner has also raised questions over the security at Metro stations. ‘There is absence of baggage screening and the metal detecting wooden-frames through which a traveller passes before reaching a platform are also defective.’
