Motel or Hotel

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

My friend has just been on holiday and cannot stop talking about the ogunquit motels that she stayed in while she was there. She had a great time exploring the area and doing all of the normal touristy things. She had never been before and so it was a chance for her to discover a new area, which she loves doing. What she really liked was the fact that because she wasn’t in one of the big expensive ogunquit ME hotels so she saved some money and could spend more of her holiday budget on eating out in nice restaurants and visiting some fun places.

She thought that the motels offered fantastic value for money and they were comfortable and she met a lot of nice people while she was staying at them. Of course, the same would probably have happened at any of the ogunquit maine hotels but it was great that they managed to go to a budget place and still get the same sort of service that they would have expected from a more expensive hotel. Personally I still find that hard to believe as I think that you tend to get what you pay for but if she was happy then that was all that mattered really.

a SIMPLE one, that calls for just basic stuff

Directions for oven fried chicken

Preheat oven to 425°.
Wash chicken and pat dry with paper towels. In a pie pan, combine flour, paprika, salt and pepper. Coat chicken with the flour mixture.

Put butter in a shallow baking pan; place in oven to melt. When butter is melted, arrange chicken in the baking pan in a single layer, skin side down. Bake at 425° for 30 minutes; turn and bake 15 minutes longer, or until chicken is tender and done.

What can I make with beef consomme that’s easy?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

BNHey there, so my pantry is kind of limited right now and I need to make dinner tonight, what can I make with beef consomme? I have noodles, like pasta, could I make some kind of a soup?

French Onion Casserole
serves 8

4-6 med/large tender onions, slided
6 oz swiss cheese (can use 12 oz, if you dare!)
1½ cups parmesan
3/4 cup beef bouillon
1/2 cup Dry Sherry
1 box of croutons, plain or flavored
3 Tbsp of butter
2 Tbsp of flour
Dash of pepper (I prefer fresh course ground pepper)

In a large pan, melt butter and on medium heat cook onions unitl tender (and “see through”) Stirring nearly nonstop. Add bouillon, pepper, flour and sherry. Keep stirring until thick and bubbley. Pour in 1 quart casserole dish. Add parm cheese, and swiss cheese then croutons. Bake in oven 350ºF until cheese bubbles, about 15 minutes, serve immediately.

*Variation-I like to layer the swiss cheeese and croutons, so I usually pour half the onions in dish, cover completely with swiss cheese then add layer of croutons, then pour the rest of onions, add, parm, swiss and rest of croutons.

Can be made the day before, and add the top layer of croutons right before baking at 325ºF for about 40 min.

Best way to cook steak?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

cooking dinner tonight, and I was just wondering what’s the best way to cook steak… I’ve cooked it before but I’m really not the greatest at it!

This is how I cook mine and it took a few years for perfection.

-Sprinkle meat tenderizer on top of the steaks and stab with a fork to soften.
-Pour Dales Steak Sauce and A1 Steak Sauce over the steak and marinate in the fridge for 1-2 hours (longer is better, but shorter works to)
-Grill or pan fry (Grilled is better)

-To top the taste, if you want, add McCormicks Steak Seasoning spice rub on the steak about 2-3 minutes before it gets done cooking.

——

Broil it or cook in it in a skillet with a lid. Brown it good first, whichever method you use. Sprinkle on a quarter teaspoonful of allspice and stick it under the broiler. You’ll have to turn it over halfway through cooking. If you choose to do it in a skillet, lay onion slices on top of it after you add the allspice, pour in a half cup of marsala, put the cover on and cook it over medium heat for an hour. Test for done-ness, and if need be, cook it another fifteen minutes with the cover on. The skillet method is best done with chuck steak.

Most Awesome vegetarian recipe ideas please?

http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Healthy-Li…

Allrecipes has so many good vegetarian recipes.

Tonight I am making falafel with cucumber sauce, fruit salad, salad and pita chips and carrots to dip in hummus. It is making my mouth water right now. And I’m making a few meat eaters’ mouths water right now, too! They’re eating it, too, tonight! You could do something like that for them. Here is the recipe for falafel that I’m making:

Fussy meat eaters can be hard to please but one easy dish caan be macoroni cheese with onion added. always have a nice side salad or coleslaw and a tin of beetroot .
or if it’s winter a nice vegetable soup served with hot bread rolls.
Most non vegetarians like my peanut mince and it can bet turned into a shepherds pie by adding mashed potatos on top and browning under the grill or left overs can be added to cooked rice with an egg some herbs and made into patties[rissoles dipped in flour and fryed. heres the recipe but i do vary it a lot.
about a cup of chopped or minced peanuts. an onion sliced small. a large carrott grated .2 sticks of celery cut up small. chopped mushrooms about 4 or 5. saute the onion celery carrot and mushrooms in some butter for 5 mins. add the peanuts then about a cup of water bring to the boil . add some salt and pepper and thicken with 3or 4 tablespoons of porridge oats adding some milk to get the right consistency. then for extra flavour add a chopped red pepper[capsicum] some cut up parsley and if you like you can add a little curry powder. It needs to be thick like mince but not so that it will stick to the bottom. serve with mashed potato or if heavily flavoured with curry it’s nice with rice.
also a vegetable lasagne is very nice. or a homemade pizza with pineapple cheese onion ,capsicum, mushrooms on it.

Chocolate Coins for Your Man and the Kids

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Thinking of giving something special for your man? Sometimes, cologne and socks are just too familiar. You need fresh and fun ideas to give to your man. What about chocolate poker chips? You always see him with the boys on Thursday nights playing a friendly round of poker so why not make it fun for them. Chocolate poker chips are made of high-quality chocolate with a wide array of choices. They are available in Belgian chocolate, dairy milk and even white chocolate with edible casings. Some are manufactured as perfect reproductions of poker chips with $10, $20, $50 and even $100 amounts. What’s great about them is that when you feel the need to munch on something, you have a bite-size chocolate poker chip to munch on.

For your more discerning poker friends, why not give them a little sack of gourmet chocolate coins. They can always be used as alternatives for chocolate poker chips. Flavors are more varied with choices of bitter almond and peppermint gourmet chocolate. When you have enough of them, you can bring a few of them home for your kids. They will have a great time using them as prize coins in their board games or play money. The best thing about them is the fact that they come in perfect sizes for individual snacking.
